FROM COMMANDERY No. 2
Leadership Education and Development
Sir Knights, I hope you are all enjoying your summer! We are at the mid-point of our year and I would like to sincerely remind our future leaders that we are continuously learning, growing and developing.
Each of us has such a giving and caring spirit that brings out the goodness in others. As we hone our leadership education and development, I believe it starts with Service to Others. Freemasonry has proven Service to Others by fulfilling their commitment to improve and enhance our society and local communities in many ways.
For example, there are numerous Organizations that help improve our communities through Scholarship Funds, Medical Education and Research Foundations, and Research Assistance. Some of the Research Organizations from around the world are The Masonic Society, The Philalethes Society, The Masonic Restoration Foundation, National Masonic Research Society, Masonic Library and Museum Association, Association of Masonic Museums, Libraries, and Archives of Europe; UCLA Freemasonry and Civil Society Program, Quatuor Coronati Correspondence Circle, and The Scottish Rite Research Society.
There are also valuable resources and additional educational information and links available at all of our Grand YorkRite Bodies of California, United States, and International. https://www.sacramentoyorkrite.org/links.
Another extremely helpful link is the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar USA https://usagekt.org/.
As we all know, Social Media has been a tremendous medium to connect with one another in every city, state and from countries from around the world.
Throughout our interactions with others who may have questions about the Knights Templar and the other YorkRite bodies, a great icebreaker to get potential candidates to become more familiar of who we are as an organization, is to simply encourage them to read and listen to the Masonic Blogs and Masonic Podcasts available on our website. Every man has there own timing and following the principles of “Ask and ye Shall Receive” allows us the opportunity to fulfill this purpose. When a man asks and is ready for more knowledge, it is our duty to lead them to further light in freemasonry.
Sir Knights, as we all continue to expand our leadership education and development and as we evolve into an ever-changing world, life will remind us the importance of leadership adaptability and flexibility, in which, the foundation and core of these attributes is “Service to Others.” Thank you all again Sir Knights for an amazing first half of 2025 and hope you all enjoy your summer again with your family and friends!

FROM COUNCIL No. 1
Companions,
You are probably reading this and wondering why on earth have I chosen a picture of Harland Sanders aka Colonel Sanders to be the picture of this month’s article...trust me I’m going somewhere with this.
Growing up, my father and I would always attend the “Midnight Mass” car show every July. Like many of you, I enjoyed the bonding time with my father, seeing the cool cars, listening to the bands, and eating KFC. At some point KFC became a car show tradition for us. As time would go on, I inevitably would start to have work conflicts as I grew older. Several years would go by where I was unable to go. Naturally, I missed attending the event with my father.
Last year, I finally decided to not put work first and I made the date a black out date. I wish I had done that sooner. I learned my lesson in making sure to put family first. It is easy to put work on the forefront as we move forward in our careers. This summer, let us not forget the importance of family, our friends, and the craft. Some lodges go dark for the summer, that does not mean Masonry stops.
Why Colonel Sanders? That bucket will always make me think of spending time at car shows with my father. He is not a Mason but guess who is? You guessed it. The chicken man himself, Colonel
Harland Sanders was a Mason. Not only was he a member of the shrine, but he was also a 33° Scottish Rite Mason. I’m unsure if he was ever involved in the York Rite. If you find out, please let me know. Go have fun this summer. Spend time with family and live your Masonic values with everything you do.
Fraternally,
Andrew P. Grajeda
Illustrious Master
