September 2024
FROM COMMANDERY No. 2
Sir Knights,
On a day trip up to Fort Ross in Jenner, CA, I came upon this Maltese Cross on a door.
Is it possible that one of the Russian immigrant builders was a Sir Knight? We may never know for sure however, the craft was introduced to Russia in the 18th century, so it is possible.
The Russian-American Fur Company started construction on the fort in 1812 to establish a permanent presence on the Pacific. If you have never been, I recommend visiting on a hot day to escape the Sacramento heat, as it is nice and cool up there. As this cross was forged in iron, may we ever remember that our beloved fraternal bond, too, will stand the test of time and remain as strong as ever.
Now, onto business; as we come out of our summer hiatus, Officers will be in advanced stations for the rest of the year.
Since we are still dealing with the Sacramento heat, all Sir Knights can borrow a fatigue cap from the armory; special thank you to SK Dave Cobb for fishing them out for us. These caps will help us stay a bit cooler in our meeting.
Officers, if you cannot attend, please find a substitute to cover your position. As always, I look forward to seeing you all on September 14 at our next Conclave.
Fraternally,
Andrew Grajeda
Commander
FROM COUNCIL No. 1
Hi Companions,
It’s September already; I can’t believe we are already at advanced stations.
So, all Council Officers, please familiarize yourselves with your office for next year. You will sit in that chair this coming Stated Assembly on September 14th.
Have any of you been able to register for the Companion Adept of the Temple program yet?
I know they were shut down for a while due to their Grand Sessions. That’s over now, and they should be back open.
If you register and receive your materials, we can start the study and review sessions soon. All textbooks for this course can be downloaded for free.
This is a short article this month; I hope to see you at the Stated Assembly.
Sincerely,
Dave Cobb
Illustrious Master
FROM CHAPTER No. 3
Greetings Companions,
I hope this communication finds all of you in good health and spirits.
The summer season is almost complete, and fall is just around the corner when we will be blessed with all of the beautiful colors.
On September 21st at 2:00 PM, the Sacramento-Sierra York Rite Association will confer the Mark Master and Past Master degrees at the Sutter Creek Masonic Temple. This is a good opportunity for us to introduce York Rite Masonry to Brothers of our Blue Lodges.
I’m asking each of you to announce this at your Stated Meetings and share how York Rite Masonry has impacted you. I’m also requesting your attendance to support our area officers who work hard to confer these degrees!!
On August 18th, a Special Stated Convocation was held via Zoom to discuss the current fire alarm control panel situation and the required fire watch at the Sacramento Masonic Temple.
The dollar amounts we are currently navigating are as follows:
-
The panel replacement project is estimated at $36,748.88 and a contingency of $15,000.00.
-
A 31-day retainer for a 24-hour fire watch totaling $26,040.00, as required by the Fire Marshal.
-
Past due bills totaling $20,000.00.
The Sacramento Chapter No. 3 of Royal Arch Masons holds shares representing 13.06% ownership.
The Hall Association board of directors voted on and approved these payments at the August 1st board meeting and has asked the Chapter to pay portions of these bills according to our percentage as one of the building owners.
Therefore, our total based on 13.06% ownership is $12,771.22.
Our Chapter does not have the necessary funds to cover this payment. We are currently requesting a loan from one of the Lodges with the requirement of making annual payments.
Companions, if you are able, please donate monthly or annually to assist our Chapter in this financial matter.
Many thanks to the committee: EC Joseph Dongo, EC Nicholas Johnston, EC Jesse Solis Jacques, Companion Mauro Lara, and Companion Dillon Mitchell for their immediate action in writing the loan proposal on short notice, which has been submitted to a Lodge for consideration.
Our next regularly scheduled Stated Convocation is on October 12th at 9:00 AM.
Please make every effort to attend and support the Officers who have made the commitment to serve. In the words of Sam Jaber, “You’ll be glad you did.”
Fraternally,
Eric Johnson
High Priest
